I was very impressed by your two clients at the last USA, Chris Cook and Mike Dragna. I’m starting to really believe in this whole “pro creator” thing! The Nationals are coming up, so I’m wondering who you are helping get ready for the last pro qualifier of 2003?

I have three very good guys going into the Nationals, so I will break it down and discuss each one individually. Just a reminder that as of this column we are about five weeks out from the Nationals, so to say the excitement is building would be an understatement.

I only hear good things about you, and your track record in such a short time speaks for itself, with guys like Quincy Taylor, Idrise Ward-El, Melvin Anthony, Chris Cook and Mike Dragna all getting in the best condition of their lives while you worked with them. How does one become a client of yours? How many clients can you handle at once? And finally, is being a contest prep advisor your only job?

Usually, I take clients on a referral basis, either referred by a current client or someone I’ve met at a show. The very first thing we do is break down a “needs analysis” to determine if they are indeed ready to compete in the show they are thinking of entering. Eighty percent of the time we agree that they need more overall mass or more muscle maturity and/or they need to bring up specific lagging body parts. They generally don’t end up competing for at least a year.

Many people want to be professional bodybuilders. Since

I started this column, many of them have sent me photos looking for me to give them the thumbs-up and tell them to "go for it." The reality is that perhaps 10 percent of these men have what it takes to potentially become a pro. Really, if everybody could achieve that goal, it wouldn't be so special, would it? It takes certain qualities, both physical and mental, to be a pro bodybuilder. Because there seems to be some confusion as to what these attributes are, this month's Pro Creator column is dedicated to explaining them. I have broken them down neatly into physical and mental categories.
